The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic Lay organization. Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (or "Vincentians") are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society's work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless. Some 12 million persons are helped annually by Vincentians in the United States. For more information on the Society, please visit www.svdpusa.org.
The primary purpose of the Society is the spiritual growth of its members. The secondary purpose is to serve those in need and bring them closer to God. The essential elements of the conference are spirituality, friendship, and service.
Spirituality: To bear witness to Christ and His Church by showing them the faith of Christians inspires them to work for the good of humanity.
Friendship: To bring together men and women of goodwill and to assist them by mutual examples and true friendship in drawing nearer to the Divine Model by fulfilling his essential precept, namely the love of God in the person of others.
Service: To establish a personal contact between its members and those who suffer, to bring to the latter the most efficacious and charitable aid possible, and to promote self-sufficiency.
We meet twice a month on Tuesday evenings. They are the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7 pm in the St. Francis Center. We serve clients within our parish boundaries and registered parishioners. Clients call our hotline then we reach out to them. If aid is requested then a home visit is scheduled. Home visits are all confidential. We go in pairs to each home visit. In the home visit we provide local agency information, take down information for financial assistance requested and pray with and for our clients. We then do follow-up work before determining if the need will be met.
We work on donations and any monies received from our two annual fundraisers. They are the Friends of the Poor Walk held in late September and Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta Night held in March. We also are very fortunate to receive a quarterly tithe from the parish that helps us aid our clients.
Please reach out to us using any of the contact information above for more information or with any questions.
