Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Kane and Kendall Counties

Who We Are

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 12, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Kane and Kendall Counties has been a program of Family Counseling Service since 1980. In that time, thousands of friendships have been built between dedicated volunteers and children in the community.

What We Do

Big Brothers Big Sisters has two mentoring programs. In both, volunteers spend time with their own Little Brother or Little Sister to be a friend and role model. “Littles” are children age 6-12 residing in Southern Kane or Kendall County who need, want, and can benefit from a positive role model. Bigs and Littles plan fun activities they both enjoy that promote healthy child development. The time they spend together is an opportunity to share interests or experience something new and exciting. Volunteers are given training and support throughout their time in the program. Agency staff facilitate communication with parents and ensure that matches have all they require to be successful.
