Who We Are

The County of Kane is a governmental body. Please see here for a organizational chart. This listing is on behalf of the Kane County Recycles Office which operates within the Divsion of Environmental and Water Resources.

What We Do

The Kane County Recycles office maintains, evaluates, improves, and expands opportunities for reuse, recycling and waste diversion in Kane County. Recycling programs focus on: electronics, books, hazardous materials, and other hard-to-recycle materials, as well as household recycling, commercial/business recycling and yard waste/organics composting. This office also publishes the annual Kane County Recycles Green Guide and offers information on the Kane County Leaf Burning Regulations. This office oversees the annual licensing of Waste and Recycling Haulers, the sale of backyard compost bins, and implementation of the Kane County Solid Waste Plan. We also oversee the Recycling and Hauler Licensing Ordinance 95-157 which requires commercial businesses and multi-family residences to recycle, and provides the provisions for hauler licensing and reporting. For more information please see this FAQs sheet.

Kane County Recycles is part of the Division of Environmental and Water Resources, which is responsible for implementing the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance, the Kane County Stormwater Management Plan, the Kane County Solid Waste Plan, Kane County Recycling Program and administering the Solid Waste Ordinances of the Kane County Code.
