AID’s Crisis Line provides assistance to persons with a wide variety of needs and concerns:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Loneliness
- Substance Abuse
Callers are linked to appropriate referrals in their community. The Crisis Line is always looking for volunteers. Volunteers must be able to be available for extensive training which takes place every Thursday evening for 12 weeks. Applications are accepted all year for two training programs, one in March and one in September.
Crisis Line Volunteers are asked to volunteer a minimum of one four hour shift a week, and it can take place any day of the week between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
We also accept applications year round for Sunshine Caller volunteers. These are trained volunteers who offer phone support to people in need. Regular, scheduled phone calls provide people with:
- Social Interaction
- Medication Reminders
- Crisis Counseling
- Referral to Community Resources
Sunshine caller applications are accepted all year, and training takes place while on your volunteer shift.
Potential volunteers need to call or email Maureen for an application at 630-966-4020 or mspradlin@aidcares.org
All volunteers will be screened, interviewed, must provide two references, and must complete required criminal background checking before training.
Training for Crisis Line is offered twice a year, in September and in March and volunteers must attend 10 consecutive Thursday evening training sessions (from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) in order to volunteer. Applications should be submitted the month prior to training.
