Valley Sheltered Workshop is looking for candidates to fill vacancies on our volunteer Board of Directors for a term of two years. We are seeking qualified candidates who have a passion for promoting the general welfare of adults with developmental disabilities and assisting in marketing our business services. As a volunteer Board member, the candidate will possess professional, life experience or skills in either philanthropy, fundraising, marketing or public relations that would be an asset to our organization.

Valley Sheltered Workshop is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides employment opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities. We offer contract services that are utilized by businesses in the Fox Valley and Chicagoland areas. Our business services include hand piece work projects such as hand assembly, heat sealing, mailers and packaging.

The Primary Responsibilities of a Volunteer Director:

  • Understand and commit to the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs.
  • Prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in monthly board meetings.
  • Take an active role in the strategic and organizational planning.
  • Actively participate in fundraising events, resource development as well as participate on any established advisory committees.

Additional Considerations:

  • Board meetings are held at the Workshop on the first Wednesday of each month at 5pm.
