Fermilab Monthly Saturday Habitat Workday

Description

If you are interested in the outdoors and nature we can help teach you many wonderful things about ecology and the environment!

Join us for this monthly, Saturday workday! We meet the second Saturday of every month. No experience required but dress for the weather and outdoor work. In the winter we are processing native seed mixes and removing invasive woody plants such as honeysuckle, buckthorn, Autumn olive, and Japanese barberry. In the spring we are pulling garlic mustard and collecting seed from spring wildflowers. In the summer we are harvesting seed from native plants and removing invasive white sweet clover. In the fall we harvest a lot of native seed, spread the seed mixes, and begin brush cutting again.

We move all over the Fermilab campus as a strike team, helping to restore important, high-quality natural areas. All tools and safety equipment provided.

Simply bring a photo ID to show the Fermilab security guard at the entrance. Meet in Lederman Science Center parking lot NE corner at the start of the event as we leave the area shortly after.

Those under 18 need to have written parental permission or supervision. Rain, heavy snow, or hazardous weather cancels any event.
