Description

If you want to learn about other cultures, meet new people, and help your community, you will want to attend Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley’s tutor training workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays July 16, 18, 23, and 25 at the St. Charles Public Library.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley helps adults read, write, speak, and understand English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors one to one. Our adult students have come from more than 40 different countries to build better lives for themselves and their families. With a little help, they can be more engaged residents.

The workshop provides texts, study material, and training so that anyone can be a volunteer. You do not need to know a second language or have a professional teaching background to make a difference. You will get guidance and support when you need it. Experienced tutors are glad to share what they have learned.

From week to week, you will see your student get more comfortable and fluent in English and you will know you are making a difference in his or her life. You will also benefit as you see the results of your efforts and broaden your understanding of values and lifestyles other than your own.

To register for tutor training, visit www.lvfv.org/events/trainingschedule or call/text Peg Coker at 630-584-4428.
