1-2-1 Mentoring/Family Counseling Service

Who We Are

Our 1-2-1 Mentoring program offers personalized youth mentoring to local youth who are struggling to succeed because of emotional and/or behavioral problems.

Our staff and volunteers help kids develop:

– independent living skills
– community living skills
– social skills
– work/employment skills
– positive leisure activities
– money management skills
– symptom management skills
– personal relationship skills

Do you see the pattern? Children become successful adults when they have the necessary skills and relationships. We’re helping our kids learn these skills, and watching them succeed every day!

Who are the Mentors?
Our Mentors are clinically trained staff and volunteers from the community. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but are at least 18 years old.

What We Do

What are Therapeutic Mentoring activities? The most important part of 1-2-1 Mentoring is the relationship between the children and the mentors. Our kids need time – time spent with someone who is there just for them and who wants to help them succeed.

I want to help! If you have a skill – any skill that can help a child succeed in life – and a desire to help kids, contact Stephanie Bossarte at 630-844-2662 or sbossarte@aurorafcs.org. As just a few examples, our kids need help in the following areas:

•tutoring/help with homework

•computer skills

•money management

•applying and interviewing for jobs (mock interviews, etc.)

•musical instrument lessons

•art/creative expression

•basic cooking skills

•and more!

What are the goals of 1-2-1 Mentoring? – Reduce mental health/substance use symptoms – Increase successful functioning in targeted areas – Improve family, friend, and school/work relationships and performance
