Who We Are

Kendall County PADS provides shelter, food, and kind hospitality to homeless men, women, and children in the Kendall County area (but not restricted to this area.) It takes more than 600 volunteers to operate this not-for-profic shelter program for 26 nights a year (26 week, 7:00 pm - 7:00 am) In addition, there are over 50 volunteer leaders who guide the organization at seven different shelter locations, one for each night of the week. Shelters are equipped to host up to 20 guests per night.

Over the past nine years we have hosted 474 different individuals, with 11,006 'overnight stays' and served more than 33,325 meals.

All seven shelter sites (one each night of the week) are in need of volunteers before October 1. New Volunteer Training will be on Thursday, October 3, 2019 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Kendall County Health Department, 811 John Street, Yorkville. Training is strongly recommended.

Volunteers can sign up for Shifts of 4 hours - just once a month (six times total). The three different shifts are Shift I (6- 11 p.m.), Shift II (11 p.m. - 3 a.m) and shift III (3 a.m. - 7:15 p.m. Also, volunteers are need on food teams, for food preparation and serving - at all sites.

Kendall County PADS is operated totally on financial donations and 100% volunteers.

On the PADS website you will find more detailed information regarding the roles and responsibilities for volunteers in various positions.

What We Do

The Mission Statement of Kendall County PADS

Kendall County Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) is dedicated to providing temporary, safe shelter and nourishing food to the men, women, and children within Kendall County who are homeless or in need.

I. OVERVIEW

A. NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION

Kendall County PADS is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization funded by donations received through grants, gifts, and private donors, organizations and businesses.

B. BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY

PADS offers food and shelter to people in need in our community and works in partnership with other social agencies. PADS is offered 26 weeks, from mid-October – mid-April each year.

C. HOSPITALITY

Hospitality to the guests is a priority in the PADS program. Aside from supplying food and shelter, the most important thing we all provide is a safe, caring and respectful environment for our guests. The spirit of hospitality not only calls for physical nourishment and protection from the outside elements but also includes the concept of equality between guests and hosts - mutuality. It is our desire to provide a spirit of hospitality that removes the stigma of "charity", which can be damaging to human dignity.
